Relatives of missing hand memo to Chief Justice

Kathmandu, April 4-Relatives of missing people on monday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Justice, Dilip Kumar Paudel, in the Supreme Court seeking his order to the concerned government authorities to treat detainees in an appropriate manner.

They also urged the apex court to be sensitive towards cases of detainees and the missing while providing legal remedy.

The Chief Justice’s official secretary Shreekrishna Bhattarai accepted the memorandum submitted by a team of 68 persons.

They have informed over 25 authorities and bodies, including the Royal Palace, the Prime Minister’s Office and Cabinet, the National Human Rights Commission, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Nepal Bar Association, of the memorandum.

The memorandum also accused the Royal Nepalese Army of killing some 47 people who had been detained in the Bhairav Nath Barrack two years ago and the massacre of 80 detainees in Kailali in a single incident.

The family members of the missing accused the court of giving verdicts in favour of security agencies without trying to know about the fact concerning them. They have also sought the apex court help to check ‘insecurity’ created by the government and the security forces.
